Board of Trustees Undergraduate Student Representative Candidates
Zachary Boudah
My name is Zachary Boudah and I am running for Undergraduate Student Trustee. I take all of my academic credits at UConn’s Avery Point campus, where I study English and Political Science.
I am running because I know that I am qualified for the job. For the last two years, I have served as President of the Student Body at Avery Point — allowing me to rebuild the campus community following the COVID-19 pandemic. I have personally overseen the stewardship of tens of thousands, funding campus-wide events and initiatives to create a safer, more vibrant community. I have also served as a University Senator, delivering meaningful change by presenting and approving numerous University By- Law amendments that will increase regional campus student participation in the University Administration.
These roles have afforded me the necessary policy-making experience and given me a social network of important individuals — but it has also revealed to me how toxic University politics can be.
I have grown painfully accustomed to one fact: the average student feels left behind. Generations of eroded trust in student government, Storrs-centric policy-making, and the absence of an honest medium for communication have threatened the promise of “ONE UCONN.” Students across the University feel ignored, cast astray, and targeted by economic pressure — me included. Frankly, I have had enough.
The next Undergraduate Student Trustee cannot be a politician — they have to be a student. Someone who lives paycheck to paycheck; someone who has never been on a student government payroll. But at the same time, we need someone equipped to negotiate fairness within the upcoming tuition increase program, to deviate spending to the programs that matter, to provide every single student with the means for success, and most importantly, to communicate.
I am not perfect — but I know I can do the job.
Help me make a difference and vote BOUDAH for Undergraduate Student Trustee.

Trust. Transparency. Tangible results.
I’m running for Undergraduate Student Trustee and aspire to earn your trust, foster transparency and deliver tangible results. As a biomedical engineering student minoring in poli-sci and math and active in
multiple clubs and organizations, I understand student life deeply. As a CT resident, I value the importance of UConn driving the economy and cultural identity of our state. As Director of External Affairs, I manage budgets, lead meetings and advocate on issues central to the student experience. Built off my work the past two years, my clear plan to represent student interest in bettering UConn includes four areas of passion:
1. Sustainability: Streamline implementation of the Sustainability Action Plan; push for improved communication from the UConn Foundation and administration; organize regular, accessible town halls for updates on long-term climate-minded policy and LEED certified infrastructure; replace greenwashing with meaningful action.
2. Mental Health Services: Advocate for centralized care; make free multi-session therapy attainable; integrate MindWise data to tailor student support; advocate for funding new mental health treatments.
3. University Developments: Prevent tuition hikes by strategically allocating resources and increasing state funds; ensure timely renovations of residential buildings; advocate for commuter resources; build upon bike and pedestrian safety infrastructure and lighting.
4. Community and Civic Engagement: Improve Storrs-Regional campus relations and diversified student connections by organizing community events; schedule candidate town halls for state politics; continue to push for a polling location on campus.
My service as Trustee will be marked by hard work, adaptability and improvements in student life. I’ll use my Instagram to communicate with updates and solicit areas of concern. Check out my website, follow @Dunn4Trustee, vote for me and Be The Change!
Eric Meade
Hello! My name is Eric Meade and I am a political science and sociology major on the Storrs campus. I would love to represent my fellow undergraduates as the student trustee.
I’ve found ways to get involved on campus, as an active member of both UConn Club Track and Field (UCCTF) and the Undergraduate Student Government (USG). I’m also an R.A. for first year students in Shippee! Becoming the undergraduate trustee is another way to get involved, bring some much needed diversity to the board, and fight for what’s important to us as undergraduates. But, I won't just be a trustee who makes promises and doesn't deliver, I'll be a trustee who A.C.T.S.
I guarantee you: A.ccountability, C.ommunication, T.ransparency, and a constant fight for S.ustainability.
The first part of my guarantee to all of you is that I will keep people informed and educated on what is happening on the board. The reason we elect a student representative is to have someone to fight for us, but when no one is reaching out to us or telling us what is happening, then we’re being left to our own devices. It is my guarantee to you that when I’m your trustee, you will know what I’m doing and why I’m doing it at all times. I will be reaching out to student groups proactively instead of reactively and I will be responsive to those who want to speak with me on matters being discussed by the board.
The second part of my platform is about committing to sustainability and general improvements to UConn. The Board of Trustees has already signed a statement saying that UConn will be carbon neutral by 2030 and carbon free by 2040, but we need someone on the board who will hold them to that pledge and keep them honest. Additionally, issues like our constantly rising tuition, high prices of summer and winter session classes, and lack of investment on old buildings on all campuses have been plaguing us for a while and I want to work towards the solution.
Thank you for your time and consideration!
Haritha Subramanian
Hello Huskies! My name is Haritha Subramanian and I’m a sophomore majoring in political science, music, and biological sciences. I am incredibly honored to be running for the Undergraduate Student Trustee position to represent YOU and continue to exercise my passion for public service and leadership.
Currently, I serve as the AsACC ex-officio senator in USG, a member of the Diversity & Outreach Commission, and the External Affairs committee. My involvement with the Asian American Cultural Center includes serving as the external chair of the Pan-Asian Council and I continue to advocate for the CT AAPI community as secretary of the Asian Pacific American Coalition. I also hold positions as an elected alternate commissioner of the Farmington Zoning Board of Appeals and as an organizer for equitable housing policy with DesegregateCT. Additionally, I intern for the office of Rep. Paris at the CT General Assembly and contributed to implementing K-12 AAPI studies with the UConn Asian & Asian American Studies Institute Curriculum Lab. Outside these activities, I’m a saxophonist in the UConn Marching Band and a Carnatic violinist for UConn Sanskriti.
Equity is at the forefront of my work in activism and politics. This means that if elected, I will make the
commitment to:
Provide more support to our cultural centers and address achievement disparities across marginalized communities
Increase access & supply of mental health resources and tackle food insecurity across all UConn campuses
Encouraging smart, environmentally sustainable planning & development
Formulating an action plan to pursue Maric's pledge for carbon zero 2040, including the reduction of carbon emissions from the Central Utility Plant
Prioritizing pedestrian safety, bike-ability, and public transportation
Fighting for housing justice, including suitable living conditions and meeting housing demands
Preventing further financial burden on students
I would greatly appreciate your support in this election!
Nahum Valiente
Hello UConn Community, my name is Nahum Valiente and I am a CLAS Student studying Political Science and Communications. Throughout my years at UConn, I have demonstrated sufficient experience to be a qualified candidate for the position of Undergraduate Trustee. From leading multiple clubs such as the Stamford Politics club and the Central American Student Association to being the President of the Stamford Student Government Association, I have proven to have a sufficient background to bring many experiences to the role of Trustee. As a Trustee, I hope to be a representative that is considerate of all students. UConn is a vast community that is composed of students from multiple campuses and multiple backgrounds, and as a First Generation Student who transferred from a regional campus, I believe I have the unique background to understand the many perspectives that students have to offer. For a Student Trustee to truly be an effective leader, they must demonstrate an ability to also reach out to students and the administration alike, which I have done as well as the Student Director of the UConn Foundation. To summarize, I have proven to produce great results for students and I hope to bring years of experience to this position to the Board of Trustees.

Joy Hamer
Name and Academic Program:
Joy Hamer is currently a 2L Day Student at the University of Connect School of Law. Originally from suburban Philadelphia, Joy studied English and History while earning her bachelor’s degree from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. She went on to earn her master’s degree in journalism from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. With a deep commitment to civic engagement and passion for public service, Joy stayed in our Nation’s Capital and worked on Capitol Hill serving a congressman who represents districts in Joy’s hometown.
What qualifies you for the position?
The specificities of Joy’s unique background make her most qualified for the position of student trustee. As a first-year law student, Joy won several advocacy awards making her well equipped to advocate for the long-range good of the University as a whole. As a second-year law student, Joy studied abroad serving as ambassador to the University on the global stage. Her professional, ethical and responsible demeanor qualifies her to serve as representative of the student body, here at home.
What do you hope to accomplish as a student trustee?
As student trustee, Joy hopes to accomplish a great many things. Her primary goal, however, is to make sure the needs of the graduate students are met. Joy has taken time to speak with students at all seven University campuses. From this, she has learned of several student concerns varying from more filtered water fountains across campuses to ensuring evening students have the same access to food options as day students. Joy hopes to transform some these concerns into accomplishments. Most importantly, Joy would like to create a fund that provides stipends to students training for public interest careers so that they can afford to work in a field that gives the most back to our community and University.
Aanya Mehta
Hi everyone, my name is Aanya Mehta and I am in the School of Public Policy and CLAS. I am on the fast-track for my Masters in Public Administration and am completing my bachelors in Health Policy this May. I currently serve as the undergraduate student trustee and am excited at the opportunity to continue in this position for the UConn graduate student body. Today, our university is facing a budget deficit, which may impact graduate student programs and experiences; however, such effects can be mitigated through strong advocacy. While undergrad trustee, I have created positive working relationships between myself, other student leaders, and administrators, allowing for greater student input and more favorable outcomes. I have taken the time to learn about the various challenges that different graduate programs currently face, and I will continue to cultivate these connections to improve the UConn graduate student experience, whether that be by advocating for GA-ships or graduate housing. I promise to utilize my platform to speak up for all UConn graduate and professional students on the issues that matter to you all because I believe that supporting its students and fostering our success is the best thing UConn can do as an institution, especially given the financial circumstances. I look forward to the potential to serve you all for another term. Thank you!
Emma Paynter
Hello hello!
I am a graduate student at UConn's School of Public Policy from Lyme, CT, and I am excited to be running to be your Graduate Student Board of Trustees representative.
I’m a hard-working student-athlete on UConn's women’s rowing team. Rowing taught me resilience, self-efficacy, and teamwork. As your representative, know that I will wake up early to get to work while the rest of my competition sleeps. You deserve drive from your trustee.
I graduated from UConn (May 2023) with my degree in Environmental Studies. As a passionate memberof the Husky community, I was the vice president of EcoHusky, helping to start the Swap Shop. I also was a director of both One Health Week and Conference and public relations for UConn’s UNICEF Initiative.
I will use my vote on the BoT to better represent the needs of my classmates. I will give your views a voice and push for your dreams.
One of the causes I’m most passionate about advocating for is mental health – the mental health struggle is a reality for so many of us and I believe that that reality should not hold you back. Mental health must be taken more seriously and resources must be readily available.
Another cause I’m passionate about is sustainability and green policy. I will support your point of view and advocate for our future with a more eco-friendly place to live concerning food waste, recycling, and better transportation; mental health, transparency, and education. There are many ways to reduce UConn’s footprint and how transparently they communicate their efforts to the community. Divest, Decarb, Disclose. We need to back up our sustainability accolades with serious action and commit to a Sustainability Action Plan.
I want to help make your experience at UConn more fun, fair, and fantastic. As your student trustee I will represent all graduate students and hold the UConn administration accountable.
Thank you for taking the time to vote!

Sofia Rodriguez
I am a first-year student at the UConn School of Law. As graduate students, we need a representative who understands the systematic intricacies of the University at large. I am that representative. I graduated from UConn in 2022 where I held multiple leadership positions on campus. For the Undergraduate Student Government (USG), I served as a senator, a committee vice-chair, a committee director, and the Chief of Staff to the Student Body President. Throughout my three years of working with USG, I had substantial communication with administrators and state leaders. Additionally, I worked as a tour guide for the Lodewick Visitors Center at Storrs. In this position, I received extensive training on the history and inner workings of our University. I gained unique insight into the administrative aspects of our institution from these experiences–an invaluable skillset for your next graduate student trustee. As a law student, I now have a vested interest in serving the graduate population of UConn at the highest institutional level. On the Board of Trustees, I will leverage both my well-developed appreciation for this University and my evolving understanding of the legal system to effectively represent the student body. I will advocate for every student experience as it pertains to the Board’s general policy decision-making, legislative processes, and financial determinations. Our large and diverse student body offers a unique combination of needs and experiences. I am firmly committed to an intersectional approach through adequate and proper representation. Sound leaders do not presume to know what every individual needs. Sound leaders instead communicate with their constituents and fiercely amplify these voices. I am proud to be a double Husky, and I aspire to make every graduate student voice heard–from every graduate program and from every walk of life.
Storrs Undergraduate Fee Referenda
Daily Campus: Budget Packet found here.
Please indicate your agreement with the following statement: Do you approve of an increase in the undergraduate fee for the Daily Campus from $10 per semester ($20 per year) per student to $14 per semester ($28 per year) per student (an increase of $4 per semester/$8 per year)? This increase will take effect no earlier than the fall semester 2025.
Taken from Budget Submission regarding rationale for fee increase in Budget Packet linked above: "One line item that majorly contributes to our financial situation is Student Wage Expenses. Currently, within The Daily Campus, we only have the essential, bare-minimum staff to cover content. Despite reducing the number of employees in The Daily Campus since pre-COVID, our wages have continued to rise due to the minimum wage increases that have and will continue to occur, such as the scheduled for January. Now that another minimum wage increase is expected, it is even harder to maintain paying our essential staff members, let alone expand our staff like we hope to. We believe that paying student writers is a fundamental aspect of The Daily Campus. Paying writers for their time and commitment to the Daily Campus creates an equal exchange of goods. Our writers put an extensive amount of their own time and effort into investigating topics, finding sources, and articulating their findings to provide the greater UConn community with a service. This act should not be unfairly taken advantage of without proper payment. When this fee increase was originally proposed, the proposed impact on student wages was calculated to be around $270,000 for FY24, and then to $285,000 for FY25. The minimum wage of $1 did increase our Student Wage expenses. However, we believe it will be a higher amount than originally predicted. We have created many estimated payroll scenarios working with TSOS: We created breakdowns for every employee and how much they log per pay period multiplied by total pay periods, which bring estimations to around $330,000 if we continue to have the full staff we currently do. We have decided to leave the current approved budget around $300,000 and wait until January to check how much in actuals we have paid for Student Wages and evaluate if we need to increase the amount of Student Wages allocated in the operating budget. With the potential for minimum wage to increase again, and how our goal is to at least maintain the staff we have right now and hopefully grow, we know this expense has the potential to go to $340,000 in FY25. We cannot sustain ourselves under the same student fee revenue while all our prices continue to increase. Although we are working to reduce our printing costs, no matter what, printing daily is still an expensive endeavor, and our current student fee revenue cannot support this any longer. Starting next year, without a fee increase, The Daily Campus will have to reorganize our payroll staff to lower student wage costs. This fiscal year can support itself and our mission, but FY25 without a fee increase would mean cutting our student job opportunities, changing what is paid labor versus volunteer, and preparing for cutting daily printing in FY26. If FY25 does not receive a fee increase, there will be smaller level changes in comparison to FY26 without a fee increase. FY26 would be the most drastic and the first year without daily printing in decades. With a fee increase, The Daily Campus can stabilize our fund balance while continuing to provide uniquely valuable support, service, and an outlet for members of the UConn community. We hope to increase the outreach of The Daily Campus versus retreating backward into obscurity, which means we are asking for increased financial support from the student body."
Nutmeg Publishing (Yearbook): Budget Packet found here.
Please indicate your agreement with the following statement: Do you approve of an increase in the undergraduate fee for the Nutmeg Publishing (Yearbook) from $4 per semester ($8 per year) per student to $6 per semester ($12 per year) per student (an increase of $2 per semester/$4 per year)? This increase will take effect no earlier than the fall semester 2025.
Taken from Budget Submission regarding rationale for fee increase in Budget Packet linked above: "Our printing contract cost $150,000 in 2023, which alone is not covered by what we currently receive in student fees. This was also a rather competitive price point, as we considered multiple contract options last year after our previous contract with Walsworth ended. Additionally, minimum wages have increased significantly since we last requested our fee increase. At the same time, making a yearbook that covers all of the events of an ever-growing university means more direct labor on our organization members. It is critical that we reach as far out as possible in terms of our coverage of the student body and its affairs, as Nutmeg stands alone and second to no other entity at UConn in our responsibility to archive our institution's cultural state from year to year. Therefore, in order to continue producing yearbooks with respectable substance, a fee increase will be imperative for Nutmeg."
UCTV: Budget Packet found here.
Please indicate your agreement with the following statement: Do you approve of an increase in the undergraduate fee for the UCTV from $5 per semester ($10 per year) per student to $8 per semester ($16 per year) per student (an increase of $3 per semester/$6 per year)? This increase will take effect no earlier than the fall semester 2025.
Taken from Budget Submission regarding rationale for fee increase in Budget Packet linked above: "The rationale for the requested budget increase is rooted in several factors that have impacted our organization. These factors include the rise in minimum wage, increased costs related to inflation in travel expenses, the need to upgrade our equipment to align with industry standards, the necessity of hiring additional student staff to manage an increased workload, and the unexpected decision to cut Husky Vision, requiring us to find a new outlet to broadcast live to students.
Minimum Wage Increase: With the rise in minimum wage, our labor costs have increased. To ensure fair compensation for our employees and maintain a competitive edge in attracting skilled individuals, a portion of the budget increase is allocated to cover the higher wages.
Inflation in Travel Expenses: The inflation in travel costs has impacted our ability to efficiently conduct essential business operations. The budget increase will address these escalated expenses, allowing us to maintain our commitment to delivering services effectively, especially those that require travel.
Equipment Upgrade to Industry Standards: In order to stay competitive and meet the evolving demands of our industry, it is crucial to invest in upgrading our equipment. The proposed budget includes funds to acquire state-of-the-art equipment, ensuring that we can provide high-quality services and keep pace with technological advancements.
Hiring New Student Staff: As our workload has increased, there is a need to expand our team to manage the additional responsibilities effectively. Allocating funds for hiring new student staff is essential to maintaining operational efficiency and providing valuable learning opportunities for students within our organization.
Compensation for Loss of Husky Vision: The unexpected decision to cut Husky Vision has created a need for finding an alternative outlet to broadcast live to students. This may involve additional costs associated with setting up and maintaining a new broadcasting platform. The budget increase is intended to cover these unforeseen expenses and ensure a seamless transition to a new broadcasting solution."
Undergraduate Student Government Storrs: Budget Packet found here.
Please indicate your agreement with the following statement: Do you approve of an increase in the undergraduate fee for the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) from $45 per semester ($90 per year) per student to $55 per semester ($110 per year) per student (an increase of $10 per semester/$20 per year)? This increase will take effect no earlier than the fall semester 2025.
Taken from Budget Submission regarding rationale for fee increase in Budget Packet linked above: "We go into significant detail below. USG’s spending increased in response to the decrease in club funding demand during the COVID pandemic, which left us with a significant cushion. We set out to spend that, and we have. In the process, we were able to spend significantly on student needs as well as meet the huge FY23 demand in club funding. We have scaled back on student needs, in response to the University taking on food insecurity through Husky Harvest, but we feel it is worthwhile to continue the increased club funding amounts as well as some of our events. Through discussions with multiple University departments including SHaW and Student Activities, it is evident that student engagement is still down significantly compared to pre-pandemic. This has worrying implications for student mental health moving forward, and some initiatives like this year’s Spring Involvement Event and Cultural Fair are dedicated to solving this in collaboration with the University. Finally, it is simply the case that USG’s costs have increased. Student payroll began just before the pandemic, and it is a major cost for USG. Inflation has led to a significant increase in costs that we face while planning events and while funding clubs. In addition, with the dissolution of UConnPIRG / UConn Praxis, we were charged with spending that fund balance in concordance with the mission of UConnPIRG. We are committed to continuing the mission of UConnPIRG / UConn Praxis, including voter registration and sustainability advocacy, and we require a permanent funding increase to go with these additional programs. We are not able to sustain this without an increase to our revenue base and ongoing increases year-over-year. Ideally, USG would ask for a larger fee increase in order to bring up club funding further, but we are aware of budget pressures facing our constituents and the University. We plan to continue advocating in the future for the additional funds we need in order to right-size the RSO funding budget."
Candidates for Hartford USG: President
Ann Ibrahim
Hi everyone, my name is Ann Ibrahim. I’m a full-time student at UConn at the Hartford Campus. I am currently a sophomore majoring in PNB, and I’m running for the Undergraduate Student Government President position for the Fall of 2024. I believe that I am best suited for this position due to my leadership experience interacting and working with students and other leaders here on campus. I was the Social chair for the Pre-Health Organization (PHO) for a year, and I’m currently the President of PHO and the President of Empowered Women Collective (EWC). I’m also currently serving as an Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Senator and a member of the USG finance committee. Moreover, I am an active member of many organizations such as the Muslim Student Association, the World Club Organization, and the South Asian Student Association. Given that experience, I want to create a safe and fun environment for students and create a sense of belonging. I want to be part of the USG culture because it allows me to voice in for UConn students and RSOs. If elected, I want to represent the interests, ideas, and concerns of UConn Hartford students. I want to help organizations host events that all students can benefit from and improve student's overall college experience. Being a USG President means I will represent not only UConn Hartford as a campus but all students on campus. USG serves as an organization that is run by college students for college students and provides various diverse activities and programs. Given my experience as a USG Senator, I would attend the weekly meetings, discuss budget requests, vote, and give senator reports that included concepts such as what events went well, and my experience communicating with students on campus, and getting their input. As President, I will be working with USG to provide social and cultural activities and opportunities for students that allow them to appreciate the diverse backgrounds and benefit from the various opportunities offered by working with the different USG committees. As an incoming freshman in the Fall of 2022, I attended the involvement fair hosted by USG. I was exposed to many organizations, and I was able to meet and interact with new students and take part in the campus community. I went from someone who was not so involved in after-school curricular activities at my high school to being an active member in many organizations, and from there, I went on to apply for club leadership positions. Now, I am applying to be the USG President and help bring a diverse and inclusive perspective. I want to provide a rich college experience for UConn Hartford students filled with many valuable and social opportunities, events, and programs that collaboratively engage students. I want to connect with students let them know that their voices are heard and provide them that same opportunity. As a leader and an Egyptian Muslim Female, I want to be part of this experience. I want to help students strive academically and socially and engage with the diverse organizations and opportunities provided here at the Hartford Campus. USG is what keeps students thriving.

Shirali Padaliya
Dear Uconn Huskies, I am honored to announce my candidacy for the position of UConn Student Government President. With a deep commitment to serving our student body and a track record of dedication to our university, I am excited to present my vision for our collective future. As many of you may know, I had the privilege of serving as treasurer during the fall semester of 2023. This experience not only familiarized me with the inner workings of our student government but also instilled in me a profound understanding of the responsibilities and challenges that come with leadership roles. My adventure as treasurer provided me with invaluable insight into our constitution and the mechanisms that drive our organization forward. I have spent countless hours studying its provisions and understanding how it guides our actions and decisions. I am deeply committed to upholding its principles and ensuring that our student government operates with transparency, integrity, and accountability. Throughout my time at UConn, the Student Government has always been my top priority. I believe in its mission to represent the diverse voices and interests of our student body and to advocate for positive change on campus. From organizing events to addressing student concerns, I have witnessed firsthand the impact that our student government can have on campus life. One of the most influential experiences in shaping my leadership philosophy was my close collaboration with our former president. I found immense satisfaction in fulfilling tasks and supporting initiatives that furthered our shared vision for UConn. Spending significant time with him, I absorbed invaluable lessons on what it truly means to be a capable and effective leader. Moreover, my previous e-board position provided me with a unique perspective on the role of the president. I dedicated myself to understanding the intricacies of the position, learning from the experiences and decisions of those who held it before me. Every interaction, every challenge, and every success has contributed to my growth and preparedness to serve as your Student Government President. Even while studying abroad during the Spring 2024 semester, my commitment to our student government remained unwavering. I made myself readily available to answer any questions or provide assistance to the current president and treasurer, ensuring continuity and effectiveness in our operations despite the distance. In conclusion, I am deeply passionate about representing the interests of our student body and working tirelessly to make UConn the best it can be. With your support, I am confident that together we can create positive change and foster a vibrant and inclusive campus community. Thank you for considering me as your next UConn Student Government President. Sincerely, Shirali Padaliya
Candidates for Hartford USG: Vice President
Mitchel Leccese
Dear UConn Hartford Community and USDear UConn Hartford Community and USG, I am Mitchel Leccese, a sophomore student who commutes to UConn Hartford from UConn Storrs. I currently work at the UConn Foundation and am a member of the UConn Hartford Finance Committee. I come to you today to throw my hat in the ring for the position of Vice President at UConn Hartford. As someone who values our student body and fosters positive change, I believe that I can bring unity and energy to our campus. As a Finance Committee member, I have an understanding of the workings of some of the event planning, the timeline that must be maintained to make things happen, and the financial situation we are currently being blessed with. Even though I acknowledge I have much to learn I feel this prior information puts me on a good road for more learning and leadership to come. In my mind what makes me a great choice for the position is my mindset and how I look at problems. The positivity and energy that I bring are such an important quality in positions of power because you need to set an example. You can’t be shy, you can’t be afraid and I will devote my time and energy to the students and make sure everyone can proudly say they go to UConn Hartford. My main goal is to create a community that people are proud of and want to participate in. Since the campus is for commuters it is a struggle to get the attention of students. Getting in and getting out is most people’s goals. The only problem is that most of these people are not getting an enjoyable college experience. Most of the time leading to a bad taste left in the mouth of the student. I can not stand that happening. We have taken many great steps in making our community more welcoming and friendly for everyone and I want to continue to expand on that. Open and easy communication between all students and USG must be maintained and we should make even more efforts to foster study groups or continued support for small clubs because we have the resources to do so. If I am elected I want to make events a priority and give students a reason to stay on campus throughout the day instead of waiting for the clock to bring the end of their day. These events will be inclusive of people from all backgrounds so all students can benefit from them instead of just a select few. There is so much potential for us to expand on what we have to make our student body even happier. If I am given the opportunity to do so I promise to put my right foot forward and not let my foot off the gas pedal. Thank you, sincerely Mitchel Leccese
Salma Makhlouf
Hi Huskies! I’m Salma, a current first-year business major at UConn Hartford! I invite you to support my candidacy to serve you and the student body as the Vice President of USG for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. One of the many things I love about UConn Hartford is its rich diversity. As someone who has lived in four continents and has interacted with people from diverse cultural, social, and religious backgrounds, I've been able to form a distinctive global outlook that gave me a more profound sense of diversity and has allowed me to gain the skills required to take on the initiative as Vice President. I am inspired by the diversity at UConn Hartford and the different experiences and perspectives that enrich our campus. This is the student body I want to represent! In addition to my dedication to diversity and inclusion, my experiences as President of two clubs, Vice President of three clubs, and a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society at UConn have adequately equipped me for the position of Vice President of USG. These roles have instilled in me leadership skills, organizational abilities, and a deep understanding of the importance of effective communication. As Vice President, I pledge to put in a lot of effort to make sure our student government hosts more fun events. I will ensure that every student receives the maximum value of freebies and resources out of their expensive college tuition. Not only will this make the college experience more exciting, but it will also create long-lasting and unforgettable memories for all of us! I care deeply about representation, and I am open to hearing the wide array of interests and opinions that exist on campus. I'll collaborate with the administration, professors, and students to create policies and initiatives that support access, equity, and a sense of belonging for every person in our community. By working together, we can establish a campus community where each student feels appreciated, heard, and empowered to reach their full potential. I am here to listen to any questions, comments, or concerns you may have. Your voice matters and I’m devoted to representing you and your interests to the best of my abilities. I promise to work hard to ensure that placing your trust in me was a valid decision. Please, feel free to ask me anything you need to make an informed decision. And if you decide I am a good fit for the job, I will make sure you don’t regret it! Thank you for considering my candidacy. Sincerely, Salma Makhlouf

Sana Lulat
Hello everyone, I'm Sana Lulat, a sophomore majoring in Business Data Analytics. Currently, I'm a Treasurer for the Muslim Students Association. I have also been a mentor at UConn CONNECTS during the Spring 2023 semester and currently work as a tour guide in the admissions department at our Hartford campus. Here is the exciting news—I am running for the senator position for the Fall 2024 semester! I have the vision of bringing more excitement to our campus with events like block parties, giveaways, and cultural celebrations. Zach's Atrium is the heartbeat of our campus, I will work on organizing more events in the Atrium to add on extra spirit in this lively place. Let us be real, the best moments on campus are the ones we create together. In those moments we share our culture as a diverse community. Diversity is what makes the Hartford Campus special. It's not just about saying we celebrate the diversity. It's about making sure every student feels a strong connection between each other. Having a strong connection is the foundation of a strong community. As your representative, I want to foster unity by organizing events that embrace the diversity of our student body. As a sophomore at UConn, I have come to recognize the transformative power of education and the profound impact it can have on shaping one's future. My name is Mark, and I am pursuing a major in teaching. My journey to this major has been deeply influenced by my own experiences as a student who, like many others, struggled to find my place within the traditional education system. It is this personal journey that fuels my passion for education and drives my desire to help students who, like me, may not have thrived in traditional academic settings. During the previous semester, I grappled with meeting my full potential amidst the demanding transition from high school to college, culminating in my placement on academic probation. Nevertheless, this semester, I've come to acknowledge the abundant opportunities and resources that UConn provides. Through this transformative journey, I aspire to serve as a beacon of resilience, demonstrating how one can overcome past obstacles and strive for a brighter future.
I am honored to address you, the vibrant and diverse student body of UConn, as I begin this journey to represent your voices and concerns within the University Student Government (USG). Throughout my time in high school, I have been privileged to serve in various leadership roles, including as the team captain of the wrestling team and consistently maintaining a position on the Honor Roll. The mission and goals of the USG resonate deeply with me, as I am committed to creating a more inclusive and engaging campus environment for all students. My vision for enhancing the USG culture and activities revolves around fostering a sense of belonging and unity among students. I understand the importance of building trust and transparency within our community, and I pledge to always prioritize the needs and concerns of my fellow students. I believe that by working collaboratively and empathetically, we can create positive change and ensure that every student feels heard and valued. In conclusion, I am excited about the possibility of serving as a representative for the UConn community within the USG. Thank you for considering me for this important leadership role.
Bryce Scarbrough
I am propelled by an unwavering determination to serve as a senator for UConn Hartford's undergraduate student government, driven by a fervent commitment to advocating for my peers and catalyzing positive change on campus. Drawing on my collaborative experiences with previous presidents, I understand the indispensable value of teamwork and effective communication in actualizing our shared aspirations. Moreover, I spearheaded the organization of the thrilling NYC trip, orchestrating intricate logistics for the Edge observation area visit, which not only fostered community bonding but also broadened the horizons of our student body. As an enthusiastic member of various campus organizations, including the Communication and Programming Committee, I've honed my leadership skills and gained valuable insights into the diverse needs and interests of our student community. Outside of academics, I'm an avid supporter of local community initiatives. My passion for service extends beyond campus borders, driving me to pursue opportunities for collaboration with neighboring universities and community organizations to address pressing societal challenges. If entrusted with this role, I solemnly pledge to maintain an unwavering dedication to approachability, empathy, and inclusivity, ensuring that every student's perspective is not only heard but also genuinely valued. Candidates for Storrs USG: President and Vice President
Bryan Bussolari and Olivia DeLuca: A transparent USG is an effective USG. If elected, we will commit to open and honest forms of communication with all undergraduate students. We will open USG’s doors and encourage students to ask questions, share concerns, and become more involved in student government. In order to facilitate open and regular communication, we will commit to weekly updates summarizing the accomplishments of USG and what we have done to improve the student experience. We believe everyone deserves a voice, and we will ensure our voices are heard through the support and collaboration with the various cultural centers. Increasing club funding is an effective way to improve the student experience. Independent student organizations should have abundant resources to accomplish their own missions. The face of the Undergraduate Student Government should accurately represent the face of the undergraduate community. We will work to diversify our team and our programs to serve students of all backgrounds at UConn. We are looking forward to hearing student’s voices, ushering in positive change, and renovating student government for the better. This is only possible with your support and your vote.
Jada Lexie and Heaven Buckham: Hello I am Jada Lexie, I have been a Residential Senator for two years and I am currently a faculty standards representative for University Senate. My goal as your president is to make USG a place where everyone feels welcome. I want USG to be the organization that everyone feels comfortable with asking for the resources we have to offer. I want to be the people's voice and advocate for the student’s rights. I want you to feel not only heard but seen. My two goals throughout my presidency is to get individuals here on campus to use their voice and not feel like they would be shamed by doing so and to put student’s mental health first and to help students with the challenges that they face daily. Your voice has so much power on this campus. I want you to choose who you want to represent you. I want everyone to have hope that this can be them one day. You are fully capable of doing anything in this world as long as you put your all into it. I want to be your change and create our unity again. Vote for change. Strong when United; Weak when divided. Heaven Angel Buckham deserves your vote so she can form a more transparent, welcoming, accessible and diverse undergraduate student government. As an out of state student, she joined USG with the aspirations of fighting for students arriving on campus without resources and a place to call home away from home; even launching a platform allowing prospective students to experience college life without ever walking onto campus. She is in favor of a diverse senate, desires to have a greater impact, and above all, she wishes to hear your voices so you the student body can help create the change you desire to see. A top goal is to launch a recurring town hall where students can speak on the problems they have on campus and then our senators can have a better sense of direction on how to help our student body. Tell us what pisses you off! Tell us the problems you have! And we will get you answers Uconn is the place where we become students today and huskies forever We need to be the change for the present and future generations of huskies We are strong when united, but weak when divided Let us Become One
Lorien Touponse and Arunima Chaturvedi: Your Voice, Your Future: Putting Students at the Heart of Progress. Hi! My name is Lorien Touponse, and alongside Arunima Chaturvedi, we are running to be your next President/Vice President of USG. We are running on a simple idea - make USG and advocate for YOU. Our platform – built on clear, tangible action steps – has three core principles: empower students, strengthen connections, and secure huskies futures. When people ask us “how?”, we have an answer. We have many goals, all of which are issues that students have brought to us as their biggest problems at UConn. Our goal is to make the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) an ally to the Student Body and push for the things that YOU want! These are some policies we want to highlight: we are pushing for tuition freezes, easier access to university resources, simplifying the reporting structure for bias and assault, the divestment from fossil fuels, a centralized SHaW facility, and subsidized therapy. UConn and the Undergraduate experience can be so much better. By amplifying your voices and putting your goals at the forefront, we can create a UConn for everyone to believe in. There are multiple large issues facing students. We have tangible steps to start chipping away at all of these issues, and pledge to operate transparently and leverage our relationship with administration to make your voices heard and create change on campus."
Mariam Vargas and Anastasia Charles: Dear Huskies, we are honored to announce our candidacy for President and Vice-President of the Student Body, as we are committed to advocating for the needs and enriching the student experience for the student body. Your Journey. Our Commitment: Huskies Leading the Way. We are committed to advocating for the needs and enriching the student experience for the student body. Central to our campaign lies our dedication to ensuring student representation and amplifying student perspectives . Advocacy isn’t just a buzzword- it’s a commitment to combat the issues that affect us the most—pressing challenges like housing and food insecurity, lack of administrative transparency and the mental health crisis that continues to affect our students. Your journey, concerns, and experience will guide our actions every step of the way. But, of course, advocacy isn’t enough. We must work together to make these the best years of our college experience. Whether it’s making sure our student organizations are fully funded, the campus is accessible and enhancing our cultural center’s resources, We are committed to ensuring that you are aware and take advantage of opportunities and resources that UConn holds for you. But effectively addressing and supporting students with unique backgrounds, perspectives, and thoughts is a complex task. Using the lessons and experiences we’ve learned from our own experiences, we can pour them into creating an understanding environment where students feel empowered. Together, we have the power and opportunity to make our student life reflect who we are, representing the richness and diversity of our campus. With your support, we can build a brighter and more inclusive UConn where every student can thrive.
Candidates for Storrs USG: Comptroller
Alan Cavagnaro: Hey Huskies, my name is Alan Cavagnaro! I am a junior double-majoring in Political Science and Urban Community Studies while enrolled in the UConn SPP Fast-track program. I am honored to be running for the Undergraduate Student Government Comptroller position for the upcoming term. I hope to extend the great efforts made by our incumbent Comptroller, but with a new vision for growth. We have far too many bureaucratic policies for RSO leaders to discern. We need to cut red tape to increase transparency and accessibility to the student body for funding requests as well as reporting inventory. We have to do our best to incentivize organizations to purchase eco-friendly products through policy and ensure we fully fund our RSOs to give them the necessary resources to succeed. I bring years of policy and leadership experience as an elected Planning and Zoning Commissioner from my hometown and as the Campaign Coordinator for a statewide policy non-profit. Additionally, I was Treasurer of a non-profit where we were tasked to comply with 501(c)(4) tax filing status and I currently serve as a Commuter Senator in the USG Senate. I hope to count on your support so we can accomplish these goals together!
Giuliana Judge: Hello everyone, my name is Giuliana, and I am a junior majoring in chemistry and MCB. I have been a member of USG for the past two years as Inventory Director, and more recently, the South Campus senator. I have worked with our current Comptroller to transition our inventory reporting system from Forms to Kuali Build in order to keep more accurate records of USG-funded equipment and allow clubs to submit all their inventory-related requests in one place. Additionally, as a senator, I have worked on legislation and met with facilities operations to work on ideas to increase communication with students surrounding the work order process. As Comptroller, I would focus on the following: ~Continuing to improve the Tier II Funding system as needed alongside the Funding Supervisors and other staff. ~Streamlining the inventory reporting process. ~Increasing transparency surrounding the budget and creating more opportunities for student feedback. ~Working to ensure that our bylaws and organizational structure do not allow corruption, especially surrounding payroll for student employees. ~Cutting as many unnecessary costs as possible so there is more money available for club funding and other student-lead initiatives.
Gavin Keubler: It’s YOUR MONEY…entrust it to someone with integrity, work ethic, and supreme organization! If you want YOUR DOLLAR to GO FARTHER: Vote GAVIN KUEBLER for COMPTROLLER
Angelo Montes: Hi everyone! I’m Angelo Montes, a Sophomore First Gen Latino Political Science major and I would be beyond honored to be elected by you to serve as your Comptroller! I began my USG journey as a Residential/Multicultural Diversity Senator my freshman year. As a USG Governing Board member/SOC Supervisor I oversee 11 staff members, provide Tier II organizations with services to help promote their work, and keep our USG public meetings minuted, accessible, accurate, and inclusive. I also had the honor to present at multiple Culture Centers and at SOLID workshops to inform Tier II organizations about UGS’s Funding System and SOC Services. Serving as a J.E.D.I. Committee member involves reviewing University policies, programs, and conditions to promote justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion among students, faculty, and staff. As your Comptroller, I will work to ensure that the needs of marginalized communities are met and sustained, and strengthen the relationships between USG and Cultural Centers. I aim to make changes to systems and policies to ensure club funding/resources are more accessible, advocate on the Student Fee Advisory Committee to fight against unnecessary fees to make UConn more affordable, supportive, and accessible for every student.
Sydney Whittaker: Sydney Whittaker is a junior Molecular & Cell Biology major with a minor in business fundamentals, planning to pursue a medical doctorate and a master’s in business administration. Sydney is well-versed in overseeing a $48,000 food insecurity budget to advocacy-based projects in her role as Food Insecurity Advocacy Coordinator for USG. She advocates for equitable access to a consistent food supply for all students through nutrition education and awareness. She has formally established partnership with SHaW nutrition services, providing nutrition education to students through events such as “Fueling For Finals” and cooking classes. Outside of USG, she is a summer blood program leader and a nationally-recognized “Leaders Save Lives” winner for the Red Cross, organizing blood drives and advocating for blood donations during a national shortage. Advocacy work and student engagement are central in her goals to suitably serve the student body and discuss fiscal empowerment. Sydney aims to manage funds to promote more advocacy-based initiatives that will demonstrate to the administration the prevalent issues that UConn students face. She will be transparent and flexible regarding the direction of funds, listening to student concerns to address the pressing needs of the student body.
Candidates for Storrs USG: Chief Diversity Officer
Tae’Niajha Pullen: My name is Tae’Niajha Pullen. I am a junior majoring in Africana studies and minoring in Anthropology. I currently serve as your Chief Diversity Officer. Thank you all so much for electing me to this position, and I would be honored to be re-elected by you. Since coming to UConn, I’ve been heavily involved. I’ve pioneered for BSOUL, UConns residential Black Women learning community. I chartered the UConn Chapter of the Black Female Development Circle where a community has been cultivated for us to be able to be seen and connected. I also founded the Black UConn Collective with goals to unite and protect the Black community here on campus. I began my USG journey as the AACC Ex-Officio Senator. In that role, I’ve helped coordinate programs. Within this role I also serve on the cultural center committee. In these meetings, a representative from each cultural center meets to discuss programs such as the cultural fair. Through these extracurriculars, I’ve been able to meet so many brilliant, like-minded individuals who share the same passion for activism as I do. If re-elected as your Chief Diversity Officer, I will continue to ensure that the needs of marginalized communities here are not only met but sustained as well as strengthening the Office of Diversity's relationship with cultural centers to ensure that USG best supports its students. Since being in this role, my commission and I have been tackling the awful dorm conditions, bringing a natural hair vending machine to campus, and much more. When I began my undergraduate career, I was a budding activist, and I know firsthand how difficult advocacy work is without support. That is why I will remain committed to recruiting and maintaining diversity for activists like me at USG to cultivate a safe and inclusive space for all.
Josh Schulman: I'm running for Chief Diversity Officer because my experience and proven leadership can contribute to creating a more genuinely welcoming and inclusive environment for all UConn students. I am currently an appointed member of the Diversity and Outreach Commission, where the commission works to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion through various programs and initiatives. My experience as a College of Engineering Senator (Fall 2022-Spring 2024) has allowed me to champion student needs and bridge diverse communities within and beyond the College of Engineering. As University Senate Parliamentarian, I have demonstrated my commitment to effective governance and fostering respectful dialogue within and beyond formal meetings at the University level. Furthermore, as Hillel’s Senator, I actively collaborate with the Dean of Students' Office and UConn Faith to connect and collaborate with various faith and cultural groups. With this combined experience, I'm confident in my ability to advocate for initiatives that promote understanding, respect, and belonging, to bridge the gap between underrepresented groups and USG, and to foster a positive and inclusive work environment within the organization and beyond. I'm dedicated to ensuring UConn's diverse and faith communities can be showcased in productive ways as we strive toward the goal of One UConn.
Candidates for Storrs USG: Multicultural and Diversity Senator
Jibreel Akbar: I am a second year psychology and political science student with a passion for advocacy and representation. My goals are to further empower and allocate resources to cultural centers to create a more comfortable environment for BIPOC students. By working closely with these centers I want to strengthen interracial dialogue and collaborative efforts. I aim to make diverse student groups feel safer, as in the cases of, but not limited to, rising antisemitic and Islamaphobic rhetoric on campus. I served as a DEI consultant throughout high school organizing events for underrepresented populations and advocating on behalf of the student body. On campus, I am in the Honors Program, Special Program in Law and regularly attend AsACC events to foster a better sense of community and connect with students. As a result, I understand the needs of the student body and what steps can be taken to create a more inclusive community. I want to continue to listen to the voices of individual students and be a true representation of our collective needs.
Avery Flechtner: I am running for Multicultural & Diversity Senate because I feel as a first-generation female college student I can be an ally and assist the student population to make sure they’re being heard in all of their concerns. I feel as though every student deserves to have a voice on what will be going on in their education and education atmosphere. Being a part of RHA, USG, and club lacrosse I feel that I am very involved in the school and community of UConn and know how to build connections with my peers and I know how to handle a leadership position to help others. For those reasons I hope you will vote for me to strengthen the schools multiculturalism and diversity.
Daniel Siguenza: My name is Daniel Siguenza, a second semester Freshman majoring in ECON and I’m a first-generation Latino American running for senator. During my time here at UConn, it has become apparent there is need for more diverse voices in positions in power. As someone who has experienced the struggles of growing up and attending school in a marginalized group, I believe in the importance of having voices like mine to represent a group that has been largely ignored. If elected, I will ensure USG legislation has input from my perspective for the best interest of the Latino student population here at UConn.

Andy Zhang: Hello! My name is Andy Zhang and I am a sophomore Economics and Environmental Science major. As a current student ambassador for this college, I’ve had the privilege of learning more about the college on a deeper level as well as forming connections with higher administration. As a student senator, I hope to utilize those connections and information to foster collaboration on key issues that we face to create tangible change. Empowering student voices is strongly important to me, and I am dedicated to implementing initiatives that ensure every student feels heard and represented. I believe an inclusive approach to decision-making is critical as the problems we are trying to solve affect many different community stakeholders. In addition to my commitment to empowering student voices and fostering collaboration, I am particularly passionate about sustainability. I recognize the urgency of addressing environmental challenges now and if elected as your student senator, I will advocate for sustainable practices and initiatives that contribute to a greener and more resilient college community.
Elizabeth Garcia: Hi everyone! My name is Elizabeth Garcia and I am re-running for CAHNR senator. I was a part of USG this past year and was an awesome experience, being apart of different committees and being involved in events that were valued by not only myself but by others a part of the undergrad student body. I want to continue that experience for my last semester at UConn, not only for the memories but to help and bring to light the issues that came with being a part of the CAHNR school!
Candidates for Senator, CLAS:
Ryan Engels: Ryan is a dedicated public servant, both on and off-campus. He served as an Academic Senator last semester, representing CLAS. He supported key legislation, such as the support for the university taking steps to decrease campus emissions. Besides USG, Ryan serves as the Vice President of the North Campus Hall Council and is a member of UConn Law Society, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. In his hometown, Ryan serves in a variety of functions in his town government. First off, he is the youngest commissioner in his town, serving a 2-year term on the Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Commission, working to mitigate the effects of human development on wetlands. Ryan is also serving as a Youth Outreach Advisor for the Westbrook Coastal Resiliency Committee, a government body dedicated to preserving the town’s coastline. Lastly, Ryan is a member of the Westbrook Democratic Town Committee, assisting with social media engagement and canvassing. Olivia Eshoo: Hi, I am Olivia Eshoo and I am a sophomore here at UConn. I am a molecular and cell biology major on the pre-med track and am a part of the honors program. For a little more about me, I enjoy going to the gym and hanging out with friends in my spare time and currently work as a lab assistant in the BIOL 1107 labs. When I first entered college, I had no idea what USG was or what they did and therefore, had no initial desire to get involved due to lack of knowledge. However, through friends I have attended some meetings and learned that USG is a great place to advocate for myself and my peers. Through my interactions with a very diverse array of identities on campus, I see that many students have ideas that would create a better campus environment but have noticed that many don’t know where to present these ideas. As CLAS senator, I will make it my goal to hear the voices of various students across campus and advocate on their behalf.
Shahad Faiz: Hi everyone! My name is Shahad and I’m running to be one of your CLAS Senators. In this position, I plan to propose legislation to improve the academic/housing misconduct process, specifically requiring students to be informed of potential violations and training peer mentors to guide students through the investigation process. I also plan to advocate for increasing funding for public education and petitioning the state of Connecticut to provide greater support for UConn. A bit about me: I’m an Economics major in the Special Program in Law, and have taken on leadership positions in a number of student orgs, including BuckShip Hall Council, DECA, and Economics Society. I also work as a telephone interviewer for the Quinnipiac University Poll. In my free time I enjoy painting, playing volleyball, and being a Vogue runway model.
Kyle Lowry: Hi everyone! My name is Kyle Lowry and I’m a sophomore Economics and Political Science major seeking reelection as a CLAS Senator in USG. In my time in USG I’ve worked with all of our advocacy committees on a number of issues and initiatives including registering voters ahead of elections, moderating open political dialogues, and assisting with our pop-up food pantries and advocating for a permanent location on campus. I’ve also had the opportunity to serve as Deputy Speaker of the Senate for two terms. In that position I’ve led the Internal Affairs Committee through a review of our ex-officio Senator list, ensuring every student has adequate representation in USG and have run our tabling initiative, giving us more opportunities to connect with all of you. Today, I’m asking for your support to be reelected to this seat and continue doing this work. Please don’t hesitate to reach out at kyle.lowry@uconn.edu if there’s ever anything I or USG can help you with.
Kenneth Nguyen: Hi everyone! My name is Kenneth Nguyen and I am a current College of Liberal Arts & Sciences senator running for re-election! Outside of serving as a CLAS senator, I am a Husky Ambassador, sing with UConn Choirs, and serve as an apprentice for the Department of Anthropology. This past semester, I was able to learn a lot more about how our USG operates, and think that I will be well equipped to advocate for the needs of our school. CLAS is the largest academic college here at UConn, and so I wish to ensure that student voices are acknowledged and heard in order to provide the best undergraduate experience as possible. I pledge to put in my best effort if re-elected as your CLAS Senator. Thanks so much for your support!
Devin O'Brien: Hello everyone! My name is Devin O’Brien and I am running for my third term as a USG Senator. In the past, I have worked on legislation regarding dining, accessibility, and equality between all UConn colleges. I am also an active member of the Student Services committee, advocating for sexual health, mental health, and food insecurity while also participating in External Services, working for, sustainability, political outreach, and housing security.
Advaith Pradeep: Hey Everyone! My name is Advaith Pradeep (I'm Adi to most people), and I'm excited to announce my candidacy for the position of CLAS Senator in the Undergraduate Student Government. I am currently a sophomore majoring in Biological Sciences on the pre-med track. I am a member of the UConn Men’s Crew and I also do research at the Neag School of Education. Why am I running? I am of the opinion that our student government should be an authentic representation of the different social and academic dynamics that exist among students. My experience with getting involved in many student organizations and dealing with students from various backgrounds in the past 2 years of my academic journey here at UConn has been insightful as it has had a lot to offer on what we as a community should be cautious about and on various gaps that we should strive to close. I am aiming to become a competent and efficient representative of all of us to ensure that our concerns and beliefs are considered and things are done about them. I strive to accomplish and achieve excellence in academics, and link students, and their well-being.
Aditi Thaker: My name is Aditi Thaker and I am running for the position of CLAS Senator in the Undergraduate Student Government. I am currently a freshman pre-med majoring in Biological Sciences. I am a member of the Model United Nations Club (UCMUN) and also work as a Research Assistant in the Communications and Development Lab here at UConn. As a proponent of inclusivity in the representation of our student government, I believe that what we see should reflect the social and academically diverse trends within our student community. Through my participation in different student organizations and interaction with my peers from different backgrounds during my stay at UConn, I have gained a range of knowledge about our community's issues and desires. My commitment to serving as a competent and effective representative for all students is rooted in my experience as a prefect as well as my later role as the President of the Student Government in my high school. These positions have honed my leadership skills and instilled in me the importance of inclusive decision-making processes. I promise that as a senator, we will work together to build an atmosphere that encourages academic excellence and addresses the wants of all students.
Candidates for Senator, NEAG School of Education:
Andy Lanza: Hi! My name is Andy Lanza, and I am running for reelection to the NEAG School of Education Senate seat. Over the past semester, I have had the privilege of being your senator. Through this time I have been able to talk to many of you about the problems you see on campus, and have been able to bring those concerns into places where they can be addressed. Throughout the next year if reelected, you can expect me to be present and open to hearing your concerns. We are the future of teaching, and I’ll do whatever I can to get us a seat at the table.
Candidates for Senator, Engineering:
Aya Amoudi: Greetings fellow students of the School of Engineering. I am excited to announce my candidacy for the position of senator in our esteemed institution, the University of Connecticut. As an engineering student myself, I understand the challenges that we face on a daily basis such as the heavy course loads and academic pressures. My goal as a senator would be to ensure that our voices are heard and our concerns are addressed. I believe that with the right leadership and effective communication, we can make the necessary changes that will benefit our academic and personal growth. Moreover, I am committed to fostering an inclusive environment that embraces diversity and encourages collaboration among our peers. I believe that a strong community is the foundation for a successful academic journey, and I will work tirelessly to strengthen the bonds between students, faculty, and administration.
Harshit Yadav: Vote for Harshit Yadav for the School of Engineering Senate! I am honored to stand before you as a candidate for the School of Engineering Senate. My name is Harshit Yadav, and I am a sophomore majoring in computer science with a minor in Mathematics. My journey in engineering has been more than just academic; it has been about utilizing engineering skills to create meaningful contributions to society. One such endeavor was designing a wearable kit for visually impaired individuals, aimed at facilitating easy maneuvering. If elected: Dedication to Addressing Issues: As a tutor at the Q center, I've seen firsthand the importance of academic support. I'm committed to prioritizing student success by enhancing academic resources and support services. Every student deserves the tools they need to excel, and I'll work diligently to make that a reality. Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: I am dedicated to fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring our school is a welcoming and supportive environment for all students. Facilitation of Networking Opportunities: Recognizing the critical role networking plays in career development, I will lobby for more events that connect students with industry leaders while providing essential insights and opportunities. Thank you!
Sadaf Zarei: Ladies and gentlemen, comrades in reason, and skeptics alike, I stand before you not as a purveyor of platitudes but as a candidate for the Senate, ready to represent the intellectual crucible that is the School of Engineering. My candidacy is not an appeal to emotion or tribal affiliations, but a call for a relentless pursuit of knowledge and a ceaseless enforcement of the evidence-driven rigour that defines the engineering mindset. In a landscape fraught with challenges, from research funding to the imperative of sustainable innovation, let us forge a path where curiosity reigns supreme, where innovation is not a mere buzzword but a guiding principle. I pledge to be the steadfast guardian of academic freedom, an unyielding advocate for scientific inquiry. Together, let’s embark on a journey where reason prevails, and the School of Engineering becomes a beacon of enlightenment in a world desperately in need of it.
Candidates for Senator, Fine Arts:
Luke Roy: Hi everyone! My name is Luke Roy, and I’m running to be your senator for fine arts. I’m running to ensure our arts and music programs have a voice in student government. My involvement with fine arts includes opera, and singing with the Concert Choir and Collegium Musicum. These opportunities have not only shaped who I am as a person, but enlightened me to the unique challenges that our department faces. When I speak to people from other departments, they are often unaware that we even have a music program! They’d certainly have no idea of the impacts the budget shortfalls are having on our program, how the ongoing construction has affected fine arts students and faculty, and most importantly, the devastating impact the closure of Buckley dining hall has had on our community. As your senator I would work to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and ensure that we have the necessary resources and recognition to thrive. As a singer I’m an expert in making my voice heard, whether it be the Jorgensen stage, or the senate floor. Together, we’ll ensure that fine arts not only has a seat at the table, but sets the tone for meaningful dialogue and action.
Candidates for Senator, Nursing:
Ali Villano: Hi everyone! My name is Ali Villano and I am the current senator for the School of Nursing looking to be re-elected! I am a second semester Junior who loves to read, hang out outside, and has a big passion for all things nursing and healthcare. 🙂 I have served as the School of Nursing Senator for the past two and a half years and have loved every minute of it! Through my time as the Senator I have been able to advocate for the expansion of reproductive health care on college campuses throughout Connecticut. On top of being the SON senator, I serve as the Speaker of the Undergraduate Senate! Through this role, I am able to help connect Senators with their constituencies and help students create a better UConn community. I am active in many clubs on campus, including being the Community Service Chair with the Student Nursing Association, a Dancer Representative and Captain with HuskyTHON, and a member of Cross Cultural Connections and WiMSE. I am the President of the Connecticut Student Nurses Association and I am really looking to help bridge the gap between the local and state level when it comes to nursing students, their education, as well as new graduate opportunities! I have learned a lot these past two and a half years and I am excited and ready to help advocate and be the voice for the SON! A few things I would like to accomplish this semester are having direct input from nursing students to help write legislation that will improve our experience here, having open and honest communication with administration and staff, and creating a mentorship program between UConn students and nurses in Connecticut! I am super grateful to have been able to serve all of you this far, and I hope you'll have me back for another year!
Megan Minicucci: To the UCONN student body; I have always been impressed by USG and want to get more involved. I am super excited for this opportunity, as I have a lot of experience being a part of student organizations from high school and I miss the action. As a passionate and dedicated student to this university, I am committed to making a positive impact on our school community. If elected, I aim to collaborate with students, faculty, and administration to support USG initiatives that promote diversity, mental health awareness, and academic success. Additionally, I will strive to enhance communication between students and the student government, ensuring that everyone's voice is heard. My love for working with my peers allows me to excel in collaborative environments, making me an ideal candidate for the USG senate. Thank you for your time and support!!
