Charli’s background combines research, technical problem-solving, and campus leadership. She is actively engaged in computational health research, has secured funding for student and community initiatives, and holds leadership roles focused on student support and wellness. Her priorities include building a UConn Health training program for undergraduates, expanding the GloveBox program to include broader health essentials, improving transit accessibility for students with disabilities, and creating a centralized HuskyCT health resource module.Charli’s goal is to advance practical, student-centered policies that improve health, accessibility, and overall quality of life across campus.
Nina Lemash

Hello! My name is Nina Lemash, I’m a junior Philosophy major, and I’m running to ensure that student voices are clearly, consistently, and effectively represented at the highest level of university governance. As the Undergraduate Student Trustee, I hope to bridge the gap between students and the Board of Trustees by serving as a clear, informed, and accountable resource. I’m committed to listening to students across all campuses and translating their concerns into actionable dialogue, ensuring that student perspectives are meaningfully considered in decisions related to academics, affordability, campus resources, and long-term university planning. During my time at UConn, I have served as the Deputy Speaker of the USG Senate, a Justice on the USG Judiciary, and Treasurer of Rubyfruit A Cappella. In these roles, I regularly facilitated large-scale, high-stakes conversations that created spaces for students to speak openly, and worked to ensure that student concerns were accurately communicated to university leadership and administrators. These experiences taught me the importance of clarity and effectively relaying information when representing a diverse student body, and I hope to continue doing so as your Undergraduate Trustee! My goal is simple: to bring student voices from the body to the board, and to ensure that they are heard where it matters most!
Rinor Limani

Rinor Limani Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Finance, Minor in Analytics. I have been fortunate to be deeply involved in academic, athletic, and social organizations at UConn, all of which are student led. In each of these settings, I have taken on leadership roles and worked to create meaningful impact. Serving as a captain, project lead, and active member of selective programs has allowed me to collaborate with diverse groups of students and translate ideas into action. That experience, leading peers and representing their interests, is what qualifies me to serve as Student Trustee. As Student Trustee, I hope to strengthen the connection between students and the Board of Trustees by improving administrative transparency and ensuring that student perspectives are consistently reflected in major decisions. I am particularly interested in thoughtful resource allocation, strong facility operations, and initiatives that better prepare students for careers after graduation. UConn has made significant progress in recent years. I believe the next step is refining how we operate internally so that students feel heard, supported, and confident in the direction of the university. When students have a strong experience and clear communication from leadership, that confidence extends beyond campus and strengthens UConn’s reputation nationally.
Sadaf Zarei

My fellow huskies, my name is Sadaf Zarei. I’m running for Student Trustee because the Board of Trustees makes decisions that shape the direction of this university for years to come, from enrollment and infrastructure to tuition and long-term financial planning. Students deserve someone at that table who is focused on substance. As an Economics and Mathematics major, I am trained to think about incentives, sustainability, and unintended consequences. Over-enrollment without corresponding investment erodes housing, advising, and classroom quality. I will push back against growth that compromises standards. I support an endowment matching framework to incentivize donation, in which every two dollara raised is met with one dollar from the governor, up to a cap in a practical effort to strengthen UConn’s long-term financial footing. I will push for UConn to opt out of UPass and retain transportation fees in-house so those funds directly improve and expand campus bus services. Students also deserve serious preparation for what comes next. That means a stronger alumni network, real financial literacy education, and clearer legal and administrative guidance for international students and others navigating visa and compliance requirements. UConn is one system. On cross-campus coordination, I want to focus on specific gaps: shared access to career fairs and employer recruiting pipelines across Storrs, Avery Point, Waterbury, Hartford, and Stamford; hybrid course exchanges that allow students at regional campuses to enroll more easily in high-demand upper-level courses; and clearer transfer pathways within the UConn system so students are not disadvantaged based on where they start. Basic competence matters: snow removal, lighting, and investment in residential infrastructure. UConn is Connecticut’s flagship. A flagship university should function like one. Vote Sadaf 4 Trustee!
Marcus Harris

What qualifies you for the position? My qualifications combine systems-level thinking with real negotiating experience. As a researcher in meta-methodology, I specialize in evaluating how institutional frameworks function versus how they are supposed to, a lens directly applicable to university governance. As a member of the Graduate Employee Union bargaining team, I helped conduct negotiations with UConn's administration and gained firsthand insight into how student needs can be translated into concrete outcomes at the Board level.
What do you hope to accomplish as a student trustee? Economic Security: With UConn facing a projected $134M budget deficit, I will fight to ensure student fees don't become a backdoor tuition hike. Stipends must reflect Connecticut's actual cost of living. Budget Transparency: Students deserve clear, accessible reporting on how financial decisions affect their experience. Graduate Research Infrastructure: I will advocate for the tools and support graduate researchers need to do competitive work. I've been at the table. Elect me, and I'll bring your voice with me.
Fabio Saccomanno

Dear Huskies,My name is Fabio: I am a second-year medical student, proud Double Husky, and your incumbent Student Trustee—it is a humbling honor to be running again to serve as your voice to the UConn Board of Trustees. I have been a Husky since 2017, and I have served five out of my six academic years in elected office at UConn. I know how this institution works, and I have a strong history of fearlessly putting students first and delivering meaningful results.Over the past year, I have worked for you to deliver concrete wins. Together, we secured a tuition freeze for the second year in a row: This is critical as federal student loan changes reshape higher education and affordability. As a Trustee, I also serve on the UConn Health Board of Directors as the single student voice, bringing the student perspective to major decisions. The Waterbury Hospital partnership is a pivotal deal for UConn, and I pushed to ensure that students across the university would not be jeopardized. I stay in regular contact with student leaders and administrators at every campus to keep a “pulse” on the student experience. When the Graduate Student Senate raised budgetary concerns, we worked together to open additional funding to strengthen their programs and stabilize their budget. Our work is not done. This role has a learning curve, and continuity matters. I ask hard questions and challenge bureaucratic answers: I have earned the credibility to be listened to and heard. My goals for the next two years include improving student mental health services, expanding institutional aid/loan availability, protecting our funding and academic freedom, and elevating the achievements of students from all campuses to UConn’s most important stakeholders. As a medical student, I am trained to diagnose problems and prescribe solutions. I ask for your vote so I can continue to fiercely and successfully advocate your interests for the next two years. Please email me with any thoughts: saccomanno@uchc.edu.
Haritha Subramanian

Hi Huskies! My name is Haritha Subramanian and I am currently a senior at the University of Connecticut triple-majoring in political science, music, and women's & reproductive health on 4+1 Master's of Public Policy track. I servee as the Undergraduate Student Body Vice President where I have worked closely with members of UConn Administration and Undergraduate Student Government to advocate for policies that center social justice and institutional equity. This means increasing access and availability of student support services, combating high costs of living, increasing civic education, improving housing and transportation, and working closely with our Cultural Centers and state non-profits to best support marginalized communities. Given the current political climate, I've striven to be proactive and provide community care and educational resources to those who need it. Outside of UConn, I serve as the youngest elected official in my hometown as an alternate commissioner on the Farmington Zoning Board of Appeals and I am the Secretary of the Asian Pacific American Coalition of CT. I have been very politically involved at the state level, serving on campaigns and as the former National Committeewoman for the Young Democrats of CT. I would be absolutely honored to have your vote to continue serving students, given my strong level of institutional knowledge and passion for a better UConn for us all. Thank you!
Nahum Valiente

My name is Nahum Valiente, a current first-year student in the Master of Public Administration program. During my time as an undergraduate at UConn, I have had a long history of advocating for the student. Most recently, serving on the Board of Directors of the UConn Foundation. As a Student Trustee, I hope to strengthen transparency and accountability between the Board of Trustees and the student body. Too often, students are unaware of the decisions being made at the institutional level and how those decisions directly impact their academic, professional, and personal lives. I want to bridge that gap through intentional dialogue and consistent communication. I plan to increase awareness of trustee activities by proactively sharing updates and creating accessible opportunities for students to engage. This includes reaching out to student organizations and graduate groups to encourage participation in Board of Trustees open comment sessions so that more student voices are represented in institutional decision-making spaces. Finally, I am committed to advocating for graduate assistants and recognizing their rights as workers. Graduate assistants play a critical role in the university’s teaching and research mission, and their working conditions must reflect that value.

USG Stamford SGA Candidates Information & Statements:
Alens Toussaint

Photo of Alens Toussaint, Candidate for Stamford SGA President
My name is Alens Toussaint. I’m a rising senior majoring in Marketing Management, an admissions tour guide, and your current SGA Chief Administrative Officer.
Throughout my time here, I didn’t chase titles. I focused on responsibility. I focused on being present. I focused on helping students feel welcomed, guiding tours for future Huskies, supporting campus organizations, and making sure SGA actually delivers on what it promises.
When I first came to UConn Stamford, I focused on adjusting. I focused on my classes, my job at the Welcome Center, and playing indoor soccer. I was learning how this campus works and where I fit in. But in my second semester, I made a decision, I didn’t just want to attend this campus, I wanted to help shape it.
I started as a senator. I learned how SGA works from the inside. I listened more than I spoke. Then I became Off-Campus Director, working to plan events that brought students together outside the classroom. After that, I stepped into the CAO role, where I helped organize meetings, document decisions, and make sure the Senate stayed informed and structured. Now, I’m running for SGA President. I didn’t skip steps. I earned every role through work, consistency, and commitment.
Throughout my time here, I didn’t chase titles. I focused on responsibility. I focused on being present. I focused on helping students feel welcomed, guiding tours for future Huskies, supporting campus organizations, and making sure SGA actually delivers on what it promises.
Last year, when I ran for CAO, I said I would grow the Senate, keep it organized, make sure meetings were documented properly, and help SGA run smoothly. I promised to be reliable and make sure senators had the tools they needed to succeed. I did everything I said I would do and more. I showed up. I stayed consistent. I handled my responsibilities.
Now, as I run for President, my vision is bigger.
I want to increase the number of students actively involved on campus, not just a small group, but a large percentage of our student body excited to attend events, speak at meetings, and be part of something meaningful.
A lot of students feel disconnected, especially after the YMCA change. While we may not be able to build a gym in couple years, we can create consistent sports tournaments, fitness challenges, and active events that bring energy back to campus. Physical health matters, and so does community.
I also want our events to have purpose. Free food is important, but what if we added more value? Many students struggle with resumes, interviews, and preparing for jobs. We can host career readiness events, invite HR professionals and recruiters who actively hire UConn students, and give students real tools that help them beyond graduation.
I want to grow the Senate so more students understand how their fees are used and have a voice in decisions. I want stronger communication between students and administration. I want every resource and space on campus to feel accessible to every major, so everyone gets the support they need.
We will bring back strong traditions and create new ones. Not just events that fill a room, but events that build connection. Events that make Stamford feel like home.
I’m not here to lead above you. I’m here to walk with you. To listen. To act. To improve. To build something we’re proud of together.
Don’t vote for me because I convinced you.
Vote for me because you’ve seen my work.
Vote for me because you believe I’ve earned it.
And vote for me because together, we can move this campus forward.
Guadalupe Reyes

Photo of Guadalupe Reyes, Candidate for Stamford SGA Vice President
My name is Guadalupe Reyes, and I’m a sophomore majoring in Political Science with a minor in Analytics at UConn Stamford. I’m running for Vice President because I care about how this campus feels to the average student — not just the students already involved, but the ones who go to class and leave, the ones balancing work and school, the ones who aren’t sure if campus life is meant for them. As a first-generation Latina, I understand what it means to navigate spaces that weren’t always built with you in mind. That perspective shapes how I lead. I believe student government should reflect the diversity of our campus and actively support students from all cultural, racial, religious, and underrepresented communities.
In Political Science, I study how leadership and institutions affect people’s lives. Through Analytics, I’ve learned that good intentions aren’t enough — decisions should be backed by real data and real feedback.
As Vice President, I want to help ensure that student concerns are not only heard, but measured, addressed, and followed through on. I care about transparency. I care about communication. And I care about building a campus environment where students feel comfortable stepping into leadership, sharing their opinions, and participating in campus life. Alens brings experience and structure within SGA. I bring advocacy, perspective, and a strong commitment to inclusion. Together, we can strengthen student engagement while making sure every voice counts.
I’m not running to hold a title. I’m running to serve — thoughtfully, intentionally, and with integrity.
I would be honored to earn your support as Vice President.

Though I am a Freshmen, I have been privileged to view firsthand how operations are handled and what a day to day schedule would be with the responsibilities, I’m confident in my abilities as a leader from past experiences & understand the regulations & provisions required to fully excel in the position & would not take the title for granted & would perform my duties with the upmost care.

USG President/Vice President Ticket: Joel Harris & Eliyahu Cohen

Photo of President/VP Candidates: Joel Harris (Right) and Eliyahu Cohen (Left)
Hey! My name is Joel Harris, and I'm running to be your next USG President. USG is an organization we all contribute to. If you look closely at your tuition bill, you'll see that each student pays $45 per semester for USG to represent your thoughts, needs, and dreams. Do you know where that money goes? Personally, I am tired of USG using student money on things other than our campus community. With your support, we can transform the nearly $2.5 million budget to serve the entire student body, not administrative overhead, but real programs that benefit you. I believe in broadening support for clubs to create the campus they want to see. What if, instead of warning emails being sent out in January, student organizations had the funding they needed to bring their visions to life. We’ll create initiatives for students to give back to our campus: sustainability projects, community partnerships, programs that make UConn a better place for everyone. I'll transform USG into an organization rooted in transparency, fiscal responsibility, and student empowerment, one that truly works for you. If you want your money to flow back to you, I'm ready to make that happen.
Hi! My name is Eliyahu Cohen, and I’m running to be your next USG Vice President. USG is an organization we all contribute to. If you look closely at your tuition bill, you’ll see that each student pays $45 per semester for USG to represent your thoughts, needs, and dreams. Do you know where that money goes? Exactly. With your support, we can ensure that every cent of our nearly $2.5 million budget serves the entire student body. What if you could donate unused flex passes and points to communities in need? What if students had access to Canva Pro? What if pre-med and pre-law students had stronger initiatives to help them meet their higher-education prerequisites? I won’t promise drastic change overnight. I’d be lying if I said all of this could happen in one year. What I can promise is this: these initiatives are not new to me. I’ve been working toward them since my freshman year, long before I even knew what USG was, and I’m ready to continue turning this work into real results. I’ll mold USG into an interactive hub rooted in transparency, community service, and accountability; one that truly works for you.
USG President/Vice President Ticket: Venice Montanaro & Keira Conrad

Photo of President/VP Candidates: Venice Montanaro (Left) and Keira Conrad (Right)
My name is Venice Montanaro, and I am a Junior majoring in Political Science and Sociology with a minor in Latino Studies. I have 3 years of UConn Student Government experience at both the Stamford and Storrs campus, working in the roles of a Senator, Director of Special Events, and Deputy Director of Student Services. Working alongside Keira, our campaign is run on three principles: Quality of Life, Affordability, and Transportation and Safety. These three pillars take into account issues that students deserve immediate change on. With our motto, “Your concerns. Our Actions.", we are determined to take into account issues that plague the student body and create candid change. I hope to earn your support as the future President of USG!
My name is Keira Conrad, and I am a sophomore majoring in Political Science and Economics. I have served in Undergraduate Student Government as a Residential Senator, Advocacy Coordinator and currently as Deputy Director of the External Affairs Committee. Through these roles, I have focused on outreach, civic engagement and ensuring students have access to the resources they need to succeed. Working alongside Venice Montanaro, our campaign is grounded in three core pillars: Quality of Life, Affordability and Transportation and Safety. These priorities reflect the most pressing concerns raised by students where meaningful change is needed. Together, we are committed to taking action in these areas through collaboration, transparency and effective advocacy. With our motto, “Your concerns. Our actions.”, I am prepared to work tirelessly to ensure all students feel heard, supported and represented. I would be honored to earn your vote.
Chief Diversity Officer Candidate: Syna Patel

Chief Diversity Officer Candidate: Sadaf Zarei

I am running for Chief Diversity Officer because the university’s diversity efforts are not delivering practical support. My experience as an international student shows how policy and advising gaps create real academic and legal risk. My work in student government and campus organizations has focused on fixing institutional failures. I have seen the absence of structured interfaith dialogue, the avoidance of serious civic debate, and unclear access to legal or administrative support for students facing immigration or financial constraints. These gaps limit academic performance and post-graduation options. Diversity and inclusion without measurable contributions to students’ skill development are insufficient. Inclusion should increase competitiveness, access to opportunity, and long-term mobility. If elected, my focus will be execution: clear pathways to legal and advisory resources, forums that allow rigorous disagreement without penalty, and initiatives tied directly to academic and career outcomes. Alumni engagement must function as infrastructure, not branding. “Huskies Forever” should reflect responsibility to current students, not a slogan. Vote Sadaf 4 CDO.
Comptroller Candidate: William “Billy” Lipinski

It has been such a privilege serving the UConn student body this past year, and I'm prepared to do it again! During my term, I've served nearly 200 Registered Student Organizations at UConn via Tier II Funding, reinvented the fiscal processes for USG internally, advocated for students at the administrative and state government level, kept an open door policy, maintained frequent communications with RSO leaders, emphasized fiscal transparency, and supervised a staff of 14 incredible student leaders. The Office of the Comptroller has come with many challenges, but we've had so many wonderful successes. I ask you to re-elect me to the Comptroller position so that I can continue to be a voice for the students, but also so that I can continue meeting and supporting you all in the various, incredible clubs you create and events you hold. It is because of all of you that I find this position to be so rewarding and fulfilling. I hope you'll give me the chance to keep working hard to support you all!
Comptroller Candidate: Andrea Perez-Meneses

Hi, I'm Andrea Perez-Meneses, a junior studying Economics from Bristol, CT, and I’m excited to be running for USG Comptroller! I've been an active member and senator of USG since my freshman year, first serving as an ACES Senator and later as an MCD Senator. I'm currently serving as the Engagement Coordinator of the Senate, which works under the Office of the Speaker. Here I serve as a support role, working with our senate to promote productivity as well as transparency in our organization. As your USG Comptroller, I’d like to carry both of these missions into my new role. I want to provide more financial literacy and support resources for Tier-ll organizations because they deserve strong financial guidance and accessible resources. Less focus on forms, more focus on the impact that they want to make. Transparency, I will work to improve clarity in funding decisions, appeals, and processes through clearer checklists, stronger communication, and consistent feedback loops with Tier II organizations. Lastly, I’m a strong believer that student money should reflect student values, and with your vote I will make sure that your voice is heard. Thank you for participating in our elections!
USG Senate Candidates:
USG Academic Senator (CAHNR) Candidate: Laura Wagner
Every major deserves representation and respect. As a student in the department of Agriculture and Resource Economics, I fully understand the struggle of being part of a smaller department; it’s frustrating to have nobody know what you do. As your Senator, I would make sure our interests are fully represented. I will advocate for more professional events that connect students to interesting opportunities on and off campus, more social events for CAHNR students, and fight for our activities to get the proper funding they deserve. I am passionate about representation, fairness, and solving the real issues on campus. For that, I need your help – talk to me about what you want to see done on campus. If I’m elected, I’ll make sure your voice gets heard. My name is Laura Wagner, and I’m pursuing a CAHNR seat in the USG Senate.
USG Academic Senator (CLAS) Candidate: Zohaib Saleem
Questions define who I am, and I've learned that the most meaningful questions lead to new lines of academic and intrapersonal inquiry. Throughout my time at UConn, I have built a strong academic, professional, and personal foundation through experiences and leadership opportunities that I am humbled and honored to have been a part of. Specifically, the questions I ask have propelled me to seek these extracurricular opportunities, as they serve as outlets to exercise my critical thinking, provide mentorship, and promote others’ well-being. My approach to questioning draws me to become an Academic Senator. I am immersed in my academics and understand the student body’s thoughts and concerns, including non-academic matters. For example, as a member of the CLAS Student Leadership Board, I have actively listened to and addressed students’ thoughts through programming. As an Academic Senator, I will represent the student body by acting as a conduit for students to feel represented through intentional listening, asking thoughtful questions, and bringing raw student perspectives into academic decision-making so students have a say in how their undergraduate experience is governed.
USG Academic Senator (CLAS) Candidate: Layla Garner
Hi! My name is Layla Garner and I am a freshman History major. I want to run for CLAS Senator because I think I have the ability understand a wide range of both people and issues. Using my past experience in school government, I have learned that all voices are essential to making a change within a group and should be heard. In addition, I am committed to civic engagement along with making sure that all UConn students know that USG is there to aid them and help them throughout their time here. Government as a whole is a passion of mine, and being a CLAS Senator will allow me to expand my interest in both government and policy. I also have extensive experience of leading community aid projects, and as part of my time as a Senator I hope to expand community aid projects to both the UConn community and the area surrounding it.
USG Academic Senator (CLAS) Candidate: Quinn Geier
My name is Quinn Geier, and I am a Political Science major who is in the Special Program in Law. I am choosing to run on the back of taking Practicum in American Campaigns where I gained valuable experience about the process of running. This has prepared me to take the next step and hold office, representing our university. More specifically regarding the campus I am going to prioritize the affordability of UConn. This entails pouring the funds we pay back into programs that benefit us academically and mentally. While I am a part of CLAS and want our voices to be heard, I have close relationships with those in all departments of UConn. I think we’ll find that we all want what is best for our school and be able to find solutions that help our student body. I hope I can earn your vote, thank you for your consideration. Go Huskies!
USG Academic Senator (CLAS) Candidate: Julia Petro
I want to run for Academic Senate through CLAS in the USG because I want to be a voice for the many viewpoints of people within the UConn community, especially those within the CLAS, helping those to have positive experiences and build a more inclusive and engaging atmosphere on campus. I plan to support legislative initiatives and budget proposals in the USG Senate aimed towards Tier II registered student organizations. I want to help students receive funding for their club and organization ideas. It would feel very rewarding for me to be able to play a role in shaping the student experience at UConn and the CLAS by collaborating with peers and sharing my ideas.
USG Academic Senator (CLAS) Candidate: Auveen Beheshti
I am running to be an Academic Senator for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences because I care deeply about student voices being heard and represented in meaningful ways. As a CLAS student, I understand the diverse academic, social, and personal needs of our community, and I am committed to advocating for both our college and the student body as a whole. I will actively seek out student perspectives, value open communication, and represent my peers through listening to their needs. I am motivated to maintain consistent contact with constituents, encourage student involvement, and work collaboratively with fellow senators to advance legislation that improves students’ quality of education and life. I am also prepared to be an active, reliable, and enthusiastic member of USG and to fully participate in Senate meetings, trainings, and development programs.
USG Academic Senator (CLAS) Candidate: Aditi Hemant Thaker
I am running to be a CLAS Senator because I believe transparency and accessibility are essential to academic success. One issue I care deeply about is the affordability of academic resources, including the Husky Book Bundle and campus printing services. While these resources are intended to support student learning, their costs can create financial strain for many students. I also want to address about syllabus transparency, particularly encouraging earlier access when possible. Making syllabi available a few days before classes begin would help students prepare academically and feel more confident entering the semester. As an international student, I am also especially committed to advocating for academic support that recognizes the unique challenges international students face. These include navigating unfamiliar academic systems, grading expectations, and communication norms. I want to work toward clearer academic resources, stronger advising support, and more inclusive policies that ensure international students are set up to succeed from day one. As a CLAS Senator, I will listen to student concerns, advocate for transparent academic policies.
USG Academic Senator (CLAS) Candidate: Kayla DeLuca
My name is Kayla DeLuca, and I am running for re-election to represent the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences in the Undergraduate Student Government. During my time in USG, I served on the Academic Affairs committee, where I helped plan access-focused events such as the School Supply Drop, and advocated for more equitable policies, like test-optional admissions. As a first-generation student actively working in the college access field, I recognize the institutional and systemic barriers many students face in higher education. I believe UConn has a responsibility to not only embrace diversity, but also actively address the barriers students face throughout their academic experience. I am committed to being an active voice for CLAS students and advocating for change that benefits the student body as a whole. With your support, I look forward to continuing my work in USG and fostering a caring, connected, and inclusive campus community.
USG Academic Senator (CLAS) Candidate: Vishal Rampur
My name is Vishal Rampur, and I am running to serve as a Senator for CLAS because I want to actively represent, listen to, and advocate for CLAS students. From high school through my first semester of college, I've been intentional about understanding graduation requirements, course pathways, and differences between majors, allowing me to build an efficient, semester-by-semester academic plan. This perspective has helped me recognize where students often feel confused, unsupported, or overwhelmed. My leadership in the Hindu Students Organization has taught me how to engage with diverse communities and collaborate toward shared goals. As a BIOL 1107 tutor, I've developed strong listening and communication skills while supporting peers academically. These experiences have grown my interest in hearing student input and turning concerns into successful results. As a Senator, I'll work with fellow Senators to advance initiatives that improve educational quality and student life. Being available every Wednesday, I look forward to meeting all members of USG and working together to create a better environment for all students. Let’s listen, engage, and shape the future of CLAS, together.
USG Academic Senator (CLAS) Candidate: Ramin Mirzaee
Hi, I’m Ramin Mirzaee, a freshman at UConn but more importantly, a student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and I’m running for USG Senator. CLAS alone is home to over 10,000 students making it the largest academic college at UConn. In a college this large, it’s easy for individual voices to get lost, which is why representation matters. That is why I am running. I understand the challenge of juggling priorities on campus. I myself am a HuskyTHON Rising Leader, the Secretary of the Persian Student Association and a member of UConn Law Society. As someone who studies Political Science, I know what is needed to represent an electorate. If elected, I aim to be a senator who listens, shows up, is approachable, and ensures that CLAS students have a strong voice in the Undergraduate Student Government.
USG Academic Senator (CLAS) Candidate: Daphne Kam
My name is Daphne Kam, and I am a sophomore majoring in Sociology with minors in Human Rights and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I am running because I believe the humanities deserve greater visibility, institutional support, and respect on our campus. The humanities teach us how to think critically, engage ethically, and understand the social forces shaping our lives. Through my academic work and leadership roles, including serving as Treasurer of Students Empowering Sociology and Advocacy Chair on CT Hall Council, I have seen how humanities-centered spaces foster dialogue, community, and meaningful social change. My experiences as a teaching assistant, volunteer reader with BookPals, and Chief of Staff for an international education nonprofit have reinforced my commitment to education equity, accessibility, and advocacy. I want to amplify student voices, support interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensure that humanities students feel seen, valued, and empowered. Together, we can strengthen the role of the humanities in shaping a more thoughtful, inclusive university community.
USG Academic Senator (CLAS) Candidate: Javed Ahamed
As a CLAS student, I know how overwhelming college can feel at times. From navigating course registration and advising to thinking about internships and life after graduation, it’s easy to feel like you’re figuring everything out on your own. I’m running for CLAS Senator because I want students to feel supported, heard, and represented in the spaces where decisions are made. To me, leadership isn’t about titles. It’s about showing up consistently, listening honestly, and turning conversations into action. I want to create stronger communication between CLAS students and student government so your concerns don’t disappear after one meeting or one email. Whether it’s academic resources, mental health support, or improving transparency around opportunities, I am committed to advocating for meaningful change. CLAS is one of the largest communities on campus, and every voice within it matters. I would be honored to represent you with integrity, dedication, and genuine care.
USG Academic Senator (CLAS) Candidate: Adan Bernard
I want to represent you all as an academic CLAS Senator because I am not just passionate about advocating for students’ academic success; I will execute on the goals and help out the student body that needs it at any moment. As a student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences studying both sociology and psychology, I have seen firsthand how academic policies and resources directly impact our ability to thrive. I want to ensure that student voices are heard in curriculum development, academic advising, class accessibility, and research opportunities. I am ready to serve, listen, and lead in ways that put CLAS students first and help shape a stronger academic community.
USG Academic Senator (CLAS) Candidate: Debora St. Surin
I have always been very big on leadership/advocacy, and been part of student organizations for the majority of my academic career. This is because I found it more productive to be part of the change that I want to see, rather than a complainer and stuck. After serving my first term as a Student Representative at Norwich Free Academy’s Student Advisory Board, I saw the change that just a few words could make in terms of policy. This especially further fanned the flames of my passion and thereafter I yearned to have a voice that mattered and could have an impact on change. Some examples of this are as Vice President of my high school's Black Student Union to being Vice President of my graduating class, and most notably Vice President of my hometown’s Youth Branch of the NAACP, where I was awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the U.S. Congressman Joe Courtney and a Certificate of Accomplishment by U.S. Senator Chris Murphy for leadership! These opportunities served as a platform for what I could eventually do and/or aim for in the real world. If I were to be elected as your USG Senator, I will do my best to represent our constituents and work toward an even better future!
USG Academic Senator (School of Engineering) Candidate: Joel Harris
As a dedicated member of the UConn community, I am committed to advocating for student interests, and ensuring that every voice is heard. With experience in leadership, debate, and problem-solving, I will work to promote policies that benefit all students. My background in the Honors Program, Special Program in Law, and engineering equips me with the analytical and collaborative skills necessary to make informed decisions on behalf of my peers. By writing in my name, you are choosing a senator who values reasoned discourse over division, who believes in solutions over rhetoric, and who will always put the student body first. Let’s build a stronger, more united UConn together!
USG Academic Senator (School of Engineering) Candidate: Larissa Chiarito
Hello engineers! I am Larissa Chiarito, and I am running to represent you in the College of Engineering at the USG Senate. As engineers, we view challenges as opportunities for growth, and we understand the importance of teamwork. Our ambitions thrive on our community and the materials. I am dedicated to ensuring that we have access to improved academic resources and a supportive environment: up-to-date engineering equipment and lab facilities, networking events with both on-campus and off-campus organizations, specialized mental health workshops to help us manage our heavy course loads, and inclusive initiatives to support women and racial minorities in STEM. Through my leadership, I promise to establish a collaborative and supportive community that will help advance our professional careers, and I will work to pass legislation that will. College of Engineering, let us use our innovative minds to make the future we dream of become the present.
USG Academic Senator (School of Engineering) Candidate: Raby Meelar
I am currently an undergrad studying Computer Engineering and Robotics Engineering. I believe that my experience in taking various engineering classes will aid in making me a good candidate to address issues with regards to engineering at UConn. Moreover, I have experience with USG, as I was a Multicultural and Diversity Senator and I have been actively going to meetings. For example, I have voted on referendums and spoke on issues pertaining to funding and awareness of ongoing biases. USG is a great way to bring real change to this campus. I would love to continue contributing, thank you for your support!
USG Academic Senator (School of Engineering) Candidate: Dave Silvestri
Hey everyone, my name is Dave, and I’m running for re-election as your USG Engineering Senator. During my first term, I worked to serve the College of Engineering by protecting key partnerships and serving on the Academic Affairs Committee, where I helped plan student-focused events and contributed to advising reform efforts. My priority as senator is straightforward: ensuring engineering students are heard, represented, and supported. I want to hear directly from individual students about what’s working, what isn’t, and where we can do better. Whether it’s academics, advising, facilities, or professional development, I’m committed to advocating for practical solutions that meaningfully improve the student experience. I’ve spent my first term doing exactly that, and I’m ready to continue the work. If re-elected, I’ll keep showing up, listening, and working as hard as you do to make UConn better.
USG Academic Senator (School of Fine Arts) Candidate: Gwyneth "Winnie" Dubail
Hello! My name is Gwyneth “Winnie” Dubail and I am a freshman majoring in Music! I once again running to represent the student body as a Fine Arts Senator. I represented the Fine Arts community last academic year and I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a senator! If elected, I will work tirelessly to advocate for the entire arts department and make sure that the arts are cemented as an institution here at UConn. I am extremely passionate about the arts. The study of music has transformed my life. Here on campus I play alto saxophone in the UConn Marching Band, Pep Band, and Concert Band as well (C!). While I am still relatively new to campus I and the School of Fine Arts, I am not new to advocating for what I believe in and that is the arts department. It would be an honor to serve as your Fine Arts Senator. Thank you for voting!

I also serve as Committee Chair for the Scholars Collective as a Day of Pride Scholar, and I am an Honors Guide for Peer Success (GPS). As a First-Gen Latina, I understand how many underrepresentation communities feel at UConn and, I would be honored to be elected to serve on USGs Senate as Multicultural Diversity Senator.
USG Multicultural & Diversity Senator Candidate: Damian Howson
Hi Huskies! I’m Damian (he/him), a freshman student majoring in Environmental & Natural Resource Economics and Geography. Like you, I possess a variety of identities that come together to form me! For me, that includes being the son of an immigrant, being a part of the many students facing struggles with ADHD, and being a member of the LGBTQ+ community. If elected as a USG Multicultural & Diversity Senator, I will aim to continue and grow outreach efforts in the realm of diversity across the many aspects of students’ lives–whether that be cultural/religious communities, student organizations/Greek life, or academic disciplines. To address this, I would listen to student voices, use clear communication and collaboration with other Senators, and assist in the Diversity & Outreach Committee of USG. In an extremely divisive and volatile time for diversity in our country, I would do whatever I can as one of your MCD Senators to ensure UConn progresses as a beautifully diverse, safe, and just community for all students. Vote for me, Damian Howson, this March!
USG Multicultural & Diversity Senator Candidate: Vedika Patel
Every student deserves to feel represented, connected, and supported at UConn. As a candidate for the Multicultural and Diversity Senate seat, I am committed to helping make that a reality. As an Indian-American student, I understand how challenging it can sometimes feel to navigate spaces while still finding your sense of belonging. Those experiences have motivated me to help create environments where every student feels supported and encouraged to get involved. Because of this, I am committed to focusing on advocacy, accessibility, and outreach. If elected, I plan to work with multicultural organizations to create networking events that bring students from different communities together, helping them build connections, mentorship opportunities, and leadership pathways. I also plan to advocate for clearer promotion of campus resources, scholarships, and involvement opportunities so that students from underrepresented backgrounds, including international students adjusting to a new environment, feel welcomed and supported. In addition, I will organize student-driven discussions where students can directly share concerns and ideas that can be brought to the Senate for action.
USG Multicultural & Diversity Senator Candidate: Mirolla Boules
Hello My name is Mirolla Boules. I am a Physiology and Neurobiology student on the pre-med track. I am a Coptic Orthodox Christian, a proud Egyptian and a first generation child of immigrants. By running for the position of USG Multicultural and Diversity senator I hereby promise to be the face that represents you. I promise to join our school together and represent your communities. Your voices will be heard through me. I will serve those who are of any culture and background, race, gender, religion etc. A vote for me is a vote for a united school community. USG Multicultural & Diversity Senator Candidate: Syna Patel
Hello! My name is Syna Patel, and I am running for Multicultural and Diversity Senator because I believe student voices should be at the center of student government. During my time at UConn, I’ve seen how background, culture, and access can shape how connected or represented students feel on campus. Last fall, I studied abroad in Florence, Italy, an forgettable experience that pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me better understand what it means to learn new systems, cultures, and communities. Being in an unfamiliar environment helped make me more aware of how important inclusion, support, and clear communication are. As a senator, I want to bring that perspective into my work by listening closely to students, collaborating with cultural organizations, and advocating for more access to resources and opportunities. I am approachable, committed, and ready to serve with empathy and intention. I would be honored to represent UConn as a Multicultural and Diversity Senator.
USG Multicultural & Diversity Senator Candidate: Kiara Kelly
Hi everyone! My name is Kiara Kelly, and I’m running for USG Multicultural and Diversity Senator. I’m a Human Rights and Political Science student on the pre-law track. I use she/her pronouns, and like our university, I am a mix of identities, Jamaican and Canadian American. As a first-generation college student and the daughter of an immigrant, I understand the importance of minority voices and the challenges that come with that, especially when there’s no one to stand up for them. The college experience isn’t meant for one group of people, but for various groups of people to have one immersive experience. As USG Multicultural and Diversity senator, I intend on making all voices heard and help create a sense of community for all religions, nationalities, ethnicities, cultures, etc. If chosen, I promise to do my best to be a representative of the people and for the people. Thank you for your time and consideration! Vote for Kiara!
